Which White Paint Is Best For A Hoosier Cabinet Restoration

This 1914 White Beauty Hoosier Chiffonier has been in my clients family for over 100 years and has seen better days. They wanted this antique beauty to have some parts restored, like the flour sifter, hardware, metal spice holder, and side metallic mounts. The original wood body to be refinished in white.

Before Pictures:

As I started to strip this gal I found 4 split paint colors from throughout her life fourth dimension. Not merely was this paint extremely hard to remove but each layer was atomic number 82 paint. Proper removal required the utmost safety precautions one must practise. This gal took me a long time to complete.

Once the pigment was removed she was looking rather skilful in her natural state! I replaced the backing on the top section every bit the original one had a few cracks and started to fall apart making her less sturdy.

The hardware was blackness and grimy, but once stripped, soaked and clean I found engraving marker'south and the original color to be nickel! The hinges and knobs were stained from fourth dimension so I revamped them in nickel to requite information technology a new fresh wait.

Once primed, I painted everything in Sherwin-Williams Greek Villa and did a light coat using Sherwin-Williams Cadet, a soft blueish greyness to help tie in the porcelain enamel top. Finishing her off with calculation nickel casters, like how she had before- once upon a time ago.

This projection took time, patience and lots of stripper, sand paper and elbow grease. In that location was blood, sweat and tears, merely we don't need to go at that place. I am so happy with how she turned out and even more grateful to add her to my portfolio!
